Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (Mindfulness Meditation)

Mindfulness meditation is derived from Buddhist tradition, but does not have a religious aspect.  It helps focus on being in the moment, rather than being influenced by regrets from the past or fears of the future.  It helps unclutter the mind, and really live and appreciate your life, rather than constantly being bombarded with what you have to do next, or overwhelmed by emotional or physical suffering.  Besides being very helpful in stress reduction, it is the focus of many research studies for specific medical conditions.

Of several meditation methods I have explored over the years, I have found Mindfulness to be the easiest to learn, the most helpful for stress reduction, the most instrumental in carrying over into everyday life, and the most successful in aiding with health issues.  This is not simply learning to relax for a few minutes a day, but a powerful and beneficial adjustment in perspective.  My patients who have taken the time to learn it and use it have been very pleased at how much it has helped them.
