The focus of
this research database is on how stress affects women's health,
and
options for treatment using mind-body therapies.

Through the patient's eyes:
strategies toward more successful contraception
"Patients report that providers
who solicit patients' needs and preferences for involvement in decision
making, who encourage family involvement, and who tailor educational
efforts to the individual adult learning style of the patient engender
greater patient staisfaction , adherence to recommended therapies, and
improved patient outcomes with use of contraception."

Emergency contraception:
randomized comparison of advance provision and information only
Women given a supply of
emergency contraception pills did not have unprotected intercourse more
often than women given information only. Women who had the pills were
twice as likely to use them if a need arose, and the information only
group wished that they had been given pills also.

Stress, serotonergic function,
and mood in users of oral contraceptives
Some women on contraceptive
pills display mood changes during the pill-free period. When stressed oral
contraceptive users where given a standard meal during their pill free
period, they displayed decreased insulin and tryptophan levels and
worsening of mood, in contrast to their time on the pill.

Sterilization
1919544 JA
The pre- and poststerilization
predictors of poststerilization regret in husbands and wives
Post sterilization regret
involves both individual and couple variables. The spouse who is most
motivated to end childbearing tends to dominate the sterilization decision
and be the one who actually agrees to undergo the surgery. The "other"
spouse may have a special vulnerability to regret.

Prognostic factors for
preoperative consultation of women desiring sterilization: findings of a
retrospective analysis
German women requesting
sterilization reversal were more likely to have been having a relationship
problem at the time of the sterilization surgery, and to have a new
relationship now. Sterilization performed immediately after a pregnancy
led to more depressive symptoms than those done after an interval had
elapsed.

Requesting information about
and obtaining reversal after tubal sterilization: findings from the U.S.
Collaborative Review of Sterilization
Of 11,232 US sterilized women
at fifteen medical centers over 14 years, 14.3% requested information on
reversal. Of this group, those aged 18-24 requested the information four
times more often than the other women, and were more likely to obtain
reversal regardless of number of children they had.

sterilization regret, detectable before surgery
Brazilian women requesting
sterilization reversal were 18 times more likely to be under 25, feel they
had been less informed about the procedure, and to have known less about
other contraceptive methods available.

elective sterilisation: a prospective study
Of 201 women followed
